He watches her from a car with shoe blacked windows. He has to shield his eyes not from the sun, but from the sight of her. He remembers the daylight and he knows it was never this bright.

 

She is sunshine and hope. Life personified in a girl. She not only wears her heart on her sleeve, she carries it before her like a beacon with no care to what happens to it, no fear that it will be broken.

 

He is afraid if he steps into her life, he will teach her that fear. He doesn’t want to but just as she is light, he is darkness. Death personified and death has nothing to offer a girl like her.

 

But she’s the slayer and he knows that death will come for her. Sunshine, light and hope can’t keep it away, but he might be able to. He will lurk, stalk, fight her battles and aid her when he can not fight for her. He will regulate himself to the shadows of her life, hover on the fringes in hopes that his darkness will not bleed into her light.

 

She becomes his silent confession of what is to come.
