Title: Something Worth
Living For
Summary: Btvs s6/Ats s3 that
infamous off screen meeting
Prompt: Still_my_girl
“Something worth living for”
The breeze off the ocean
blows her hair back, a
golden beacon calling him
home. He slips up behind
her, his arms encircling her
wasted frame. He pulls her
against him, into him,
aching with the need to wrap
her up in himself and
protect her. She rests the
back of her head against a
heart that beat only for
her.
“Tell me there’s something
worth living for. Show me
this isn’t Hell.”
The wind whips her words
away before he hears them.
He doesn’t need to hear
them. They are carved upon
her bones, etched into her
soul. He bows his head, his
lips next to her ear,
prepared to give her pretty
words. His voice catches
before he can make a sound.
He knows he should tell her
of sunsets and sunrises,
laughing children and loving
couples. He can not tell her
of things he doesn’t know
himself. Instead he tells
her about chocolate and
peanut butter, ice cream on
warm skin, a heart beat and
a tomorrow that keeps him
from giving up despite the
fact that it may never come.
She watches him leave, tail
lights a beacon bidding her
goodbye for now. She knows
he can’t stay regardless of
how much either of them
wishes he could. Her world
doesn’t consist of wishes,
wants or dreams. It’s made
up of have to, duty and
blood. She watches the tail
lights disappear, pretty
words never spoken. He
hasn’t given her false
promises or declarations of
love. They never needed
either. They have always
been more than words, more
than promises. They always
will be and that in itself
is something worth living
for.
