Gil stretched lazily on his
stomach under the sheets and
stifled a yawn with his face
turning into the pillow.
Something had forced him
awake and he quickly
realized that it was the
television. He batted his
eyes open and looked up to
the woman next to him
sitting in the bed with the
sheets pulled up over her
chest. “Why’re you awake?”
His speech was still sleep
slurred from the half-awake
state he was in.
Sara winced slightly at
having woken Gil up and
turned the volume down even
lower on the television with
the remote. “Sorry. Couldn’t
sleep.” A smile played at
her lips at the sight of him
lying next to her having
just woken up. He was
rubbing a fist at his eyes
and looked much younger than
he actually was. “I figured
that watching something
boring on television would
put me to sleep.”
“Infomercials?” Gil lifted
his head from his pillow to
eye the small television on
the dresser. “Or… girls in
bikinis on the beach. A bad
porn film.” He looked
sideways to her, confusion
marking his features. “This
is supposed to relax you?”
“No…” Sara couldn’t help the
smile that spread over her
lips or the small laugh that
escaped her. “It’s beach
volleyball.”
“Oh…” Gil laid his head back
down against the pillow and
closed his eyes. “Beach
volleyball bores you?”
“Well, most sports bore me.
This is just what was on.”
Sara explained, settling
back into the pillows next
to Gil. She ran the tips of
her fingers in random
patterns over his back.
“Hey, did you file the
evidence I gave you at the
end of shift?”
“Didn’t we have a rule about
discussion of work here?”
Gil asked, his eyes drooping
closed again.
“We did. It was a stupid
question.” Sara bowed her
head, her hair falling to
frame her face. “Just
restless thoughts… you know?
Sometimes they’re difficult
to stop.”
There was a silence that
settled in the room and for
the moment, Sara thought Gil
was asleep again. She
glanced to the television
just as he spoke again.
“I filed the evidence… and
yes, I know.” Gil opened his
eyes and slid a hand around
Sara’s waist to pull her
closer to him. “Did the case
bother you that much?”
There were times when Sara
still found it hard to admit
any kind of weakness to
anyone including Gil. “Just
can’t sleep.” She watched
him set the pillows back
against the headboard and
sit up to rest back against
them. “What are you doing?”
She asked, confusion lacing
her voice.
“I’m going to watch beach
volleyball with you.” Gil
said, as if it were the most
natural solution in the
world. He reached to the
bedside table for his
glasses.
“Wait. Wait. If you’re going
to be awake…” Sara reached
out to stop him from getting
his glasses. “There are
other ways to make me
tired.”
Gil smirked and let his
glasses stay where they were
on the bed stand as Sara
straddled his hips. “Again?
It didn’t seem to work the
last time.” He joked lightly
even as he reached up to
brush her hair back behind
her ears and then trail his
fingers down her neck.
“You’ve never been one to
give up Grissom.” Sara
chided back to him using his
last name playfully. “Don’t
start now.”
A corner of Gil’s lips
lifted in a half grin as his
fingers slid down Sara’s
neck to flick over one
nipple and then the other.
His other hand circled to
the back of her neck to pull
her down into a wet, heated
kiss. After the need for air
overpowered anything else,
he pulled back to whisper
against kiss-swollen lips.
“If at first you don’t
succeed…”
Sara grinned, rocking her
hips over him. She trailed
warm kisses over his neck,
as his own touch seemed to
drift lower and lower over
her skin. “It beats beach
volleyball.”
A quiet chuckle escaped Gil.
“Yes I’m sure I can be much
more boring. I’ll attempt to
put you to sleep more
effectively.”
“I’m sure you will.”
